Privacy Policy
The short version: your audio and transcripts stay on your Mac. Transcription runs on-device by default and nothing you say is sent to us — ever. Our license server stores only what licensing needs: your email, your license key, the devices you activated, and (for trials only) the minutes you have used. We run no analytics and set no cookies.
1. What stays on your Mac
Speechka records audio, transcribes it, and keeps a local journal of your captures. All of it — audio, transcripts, history, and settings — is stored locally on your Mac. We have no access to it, and the app never uploads it to any server we operate. You can delete your local history at any time from within the app.
2. Transcription: on-device by default, cloud only if you opt in
By default, transcription runs entirely on your Mac using open-source speech models. No audio leaves your machine.
Optionally, you can enable a cloud transcription model by entering your own API key for a third-party provider (currently OpenAI or Groq). If you do, your audio is sent directly from your Mac to that provider — it never passes through our servers, and we never see it. That data is then governed by the provider's own privacy policy. Cloud transcription is strictly opt-in: it is off until you enter a key and explicitly consent per provider.
3. What our license server stores
The only server we operate is the licensing service. It stores:
- Your email address — used to deliver sign-in links and associate purchases with your license.
- Your license key and its status — kind (trial or lifetime) and purchase references.
- Device records — an identifier and the device name for each Mac you activate (up to 5), so you can manage them yourself.
- Trial usage minutes — for free trials only, the app reports the number of minutes transcribed so the 60-minute trial limit can be enforced. Never the content, never the audio. Paid licenses report no usage at all.
The app periodically refreshes its license token. For lifetime licenses this stops entirely 60 days after purchase — after that, the app verifies your license offline and no longer contacts our server.
4. Payments
Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle handles your payment details — card numbers never reach us. Paddle shares with us only what we need to issue your license: your email address and transaction references. See Paddle's privacy policy for how they handle payment data, including any data they process for tax and fraud-prevention purposes.
5. Emails
We send transactional email only: sign-in (magic link) messages and purchase-related messages such as your license key. We do not send marketing email without your separate, explicit consent, and we do not share your address with anyone except the providers that deliver these emails on our behalf.
6. No analytics, no tracking
The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, and no usage tracking beyond the trial-minutes counter described above. This website is static, sets no cookies, and embeds no third-party trackers.
7. Data retention and deletion
License records are kept for as long as your license is active, and afterwards only as long as needed for accounting and legal obligations. To delete your license data (email, devices, keys), email support@speechka.app from the address on the license and we will remove it. Local data on your Mac is yours — deleting the app and its data folder removes everything.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Contact us at support@speechka.app to exercise any of these rights.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes that affect what data we collect will be called out in release notes.
